Week 1 Term 4 - 2022
Dear Families
Welcome to Term 4, I hope you had a restful and fruitful break with your children.
As always it was a true joy to welcome our children back on Monday morning, with their enthusiasm and the absolute need to share all their wonderful holiday stories. It is a timely reminder to us as staff, of how blessed we are in our job.
As we begin our final term for 2022 we are aware of the many events and activities that will keep us busy and focussed
- lots of learning, Junior Joeys, Swimming awareness, Exuro, assessments, reports, the swimming carnival, School Captains and Leaders elections for 2023,
Advent, Masses and Liturgies, Year 6 Graduation, and the list goes on. Before we know it, we will be at the end of another year and saying goodbye to Year 6 2022. What a wonderful term we have ahead!
ST JOSEPH'S WILL CONTINUE TO FLOURISH
ARIELLA AND JASMINE GIVE VOICE TO THE YOUTH
At the end of the last Term, Ariella Mangan and Jasmine Hayden attended the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
They had the opportunity to ask a question of an expert panel that included:
- Professor Tim Flannery - Influential Environmentalist
- Rosemary Kayess- United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Ricardo Tomas Mena Speck Director of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
- Nolene Nabulivou- Executive Director of Diverse Voices and Action for Equity
- Sudirman Said Secretary General of the Indonesian Red Cross.
The girls were absolutely amazing, very courageous, and spoke strongly for Youth Voice. They were approached throughout the day by many who congratulated them and asked them about their future plans.
In the afternoon 8 students from St Joseph's College, Banora Point, then joined Jasmine and Ariella to participate in a working session with delegates where they shared their experiences of floods, bushfires, and COVID.
Congratulations Ariella and Jasmine, we are so proud of you.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Year C - The 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading
Luke 18:1-8
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a woman who is persistent. She asks a judge for what she wants. The judge gives the woman what she wants because she is persistent. Jesus says that we are to be persistent in our prayer. God invites us to be closer to him by praying often. He always hears and answers our prayers. We just need to be patient.
October the Month of the Rosary
The 13th of October was the celebration of National Rosary Day. The Rosary is a collection of prayers that helps us to reflect on key moments in Jesus’ life.
When we say the rosary we might focus on one of the four mysteries:
- Joyful mysteries- Jesus’ childhood,
- Luminous (Light) mysteries- Jesus’ adult life,
- Sorrowful Mysteries- The events of Good Friday,
- Glorious mysteries- What happened after Jesus’ Resurrection. In each mystery, there are 5 moments in the scripture of Jesus’ life that we reflect on.
- Saying the Rosary helps us to get closer to Jesus and Mary by reflecting on key events in their life. It also helps us to remember that Jesus experiences the same feelings that we do.

SPOTLIGHT ON KINDER
This week at St Joseph’s we were lucky enough to have a guest speaker come to our school and answer all our questions about Australian native stingless bees. Mrs Maginnity shared with us her bee knowledge and the Australian Native Bee Company donated a bee hive to our school so we can help ensure our future is bright. We tasted honey, felt bee wax and listened to the bees buzzing in the hive. Here are some of the fabulous bee maps, scientific insect drawings and the creative tree we made to house our bee creations and flowers. We love learning about bees and their importance to our ecosystem.
